Mark vs. Wild: The Rocky Mountains

January 11, 2007 at 9:39 am

So, last night I had a great time, and I finally put together the Mark vs. Wild video that I’ve had laying around for the last two months. I put it up on the video page, check it out! I apologize now for the constant girl-ish giggling of the camera-woman. I was just having too much fun, I guess.

It is a rather large file. Evidently adding the soundtrack, while lots of fun to do, made the file bloat a bit. Just be patient during the download, I guess.

I am aware of the fact that Mark and I are probably two of the total maybe 10 people in the world who Tivo Man vs. Wild on the Discovery Channel. We find it hi-larious, and fully entertaining. Poor Bear, he puts himself through so much trauma just in case we might someday get lost on a volcano in Hawaii.

Thus, if you’ve never seen the show, the video clip may not make a ton of sense (or be nearly as funny as it was for us to make it). There are clips of the show on the fansite, and here are a few more from You Tube: frozen Lake in the European Alps, bad night in the rainforest, and silly fun in the Moab desert.

Golden Eagle

January 7, 2007 at 2:13 pm

As I’m currently recovering from that nasty flu of last week, I decided that the snowshoeing trip we had planned for this weekend would not be good for my health. Thus, today I missed out on the super-cool snow-shoe yurt trip that we’ve been planning for months. I’m so bummed! In order to make up for it, I tried to get out this afternoon for some shots of the river and neighborhood in the snow. Turns out the river is completely frozen over.

HOWEVER! The local raptor rescue center had several of their birds out for feeding. This gorgeous golden eagle was enjoying a whole prairie dog when I came by. She’s HUGE, and absolutely beautiful.

What else is there to do than play with photoshop? Next activity… a nap!

Links Page

Well, I’m home sick again today. Some kind of icky flu. At least today I don’t have the headache that I did yesterday, so I’m able to read and write. I’m not moving off the couch though.

So, I had time to put together a new Favorite Sites page. This is just a spot where we can put up links to sites around the web that Mark and I check out fairly often. Of course, we’ll still add blogs we read to the side bar at left, and links to pages directly related to ColoCalders.Com just above them. The list is kind of small right now, so check back occasionally as we add more links.

Frozen

Well, we made it back home! What a great trip. The holidays can be stressful, but it’s still nice to be able to get out, drive around the country, and visit with old friends and loving family.

Getting home was a little bit of an adventure. We found out on Saturday morning that TJ had taken our one set of car keys to Cincinnati with him the previous day. We had to have the yellow truck towed to the Ford dealership in Kirkwood and have them make a new set of keys for it. I just wanted to plug this dealership, because the guys were so great. They only had 3 people working that day, and a whole crowd of people wanting to get something done on their cars before the holiday. And still they managed to fit us in and be really good natured about it.

The next thing to worry about was the fact that due to the snow storm the previous week, I-70 was shut down through most of Kansas all the way until late Sunday night. Thankfully, when we left on Monday, the road was reopened, and well cleaned and melted. We hit about 45 miles of pretty icky road near Colby, again. I stopped again for some pics of the second round of ice storm. But the poor road conditions didn’t last long, and we were home later that evening.

Happy New Year to everybody (just a little late)!

Contrails at sunset

Another shot from the car on the drive back to St. Louis yesterday. It was one of those days where every single jet contrail just hung in the sky forever.

Took this shot using my new lens as Mark passed this truck at a possibly illegal speed in the middle of Indiana. It’s not as focused as I might have liked, but I like it.
